INTRODUCTION TO HAND TOOLS:

• The hand tool intro is a task-based 90 minute step-by-step hands-on exercise
• The main goal is to learn about hand tools and bench-top equipment

 

• Stay at your bench
• Start by watching the first video clip on the list, and do exactly as it says
• Open the relevant drawing to the task (link at the bottom) to find dimensions
• Go get ONE HAND TOOL AT A TIME – leave your name token for the tool, so others can see who has it.
• Return tool immediately when done.
• If all tools for the task are taken, skip to another task. These tasks do  NOT  need to be done in a specific order.
• Work in groups if you want. Show others what you know. Don’t DO things for your friends, but let them use the tool themselves.

 

• A basic tape follower (or max. two per team) is being built and will be used in class the following week
• If not finished with the task, work can be completed after 5pm on both Tuesday and Thursday.

 

Thursday after the last group has finished the intro, all teams will meet and decide if they want to assemble one or two tape followers, depending on how many usable parts they made during the tool intro. Final assembly follows right away, and the resulting machines are used in class on June 5th  (location for that: IKBLC 261)  to learn about programming and PID control.
